THE SEPTEMBER ISSUE
Dear Readers:
My sincere apologies. I've been absent for approximately six months.
I have only recently resigned from a highly unethical consulting firm whose Managing Director did a pretty good job of almost destroying me. I wish I could tell you who she is! (look me up on Linked In).
If you've heard of a little word called bullying - you'll understand why I lost interest in fashion, blogging, and just about everything for the better part of 2010.
Happily though, HBTN traffic statistics are still kicking, people still continue to follow me on twitter (BIG SMILE) ...AND I've managed to keep my freelance post at Peppermint Magazine.
You'll see my literary contribution in the forthcoming "September Issue", which is very exciting. A big thank you to Kelley Sheenan and Tess Curran for their ongoing faith in my ability to write...and more importantly, deliver.
See you soon,
Love
Ness. X

A DARK CLOUD DESCENDS @ ANN DEMEULEMEESTER
We can't exactly tell if it's a hint of depression or vampire chic at the recent Ann Demeulemeester for AW10.
Either way, we love the seething fusion of black and red leather, furious feathers and alien inspired neck wear.

VOGUE BRAZIL JUNE 2009
The wonders of Patagonia have inspired travellers and its inhabitants for thousands of years. Little wonder then, the Editors at Brazil Vogue were moved to shoot and produce the Umatrama Natural Story, published in the June 2009 edition.

POST POST MODERN MOVEMENT IN A POST MODERN WORLD
POPOMOMO
Yes, you read the title right, and no, the double post is not a typo.
An entirely sustainable line, LA based label POPOMOMO [post post modern movement]focuses on the "new and the true; creating idea - as opposed to trend based pieces".
So technically, you could buy any one of the label's gorgeous SS10 pieces, and theoretically still be wearing it in 2020.

Gawd, it's so hard to be original these days.
So whilst trawling the internet for story inspiration I happily discovered the gorgeous e-vintage / eco boutique, Ruche, www.shopruche.com, and I'm pretty sure no one's blogged about it yet.
The online store contains a fantastical, romantic collection of vintage inspired pieces, including a modest eco offering.
Oh, and there's a free downloadable wallpaper at the Ruche blog. What a good idea - spending any amount of time on this site will certainly empty your bank account.
Ruche is based in sunny California, but ships to anywhere in the world. It's quite possibly the most beautiful and affordable e-boutique on the net.

BALMAIN AW10
"It's Louis the XIV meets Dolly Parton"
"The ultimate rock-n-roll Napoleonic look"
"What all the straight guys want is to date a Balmain girl. She's the hottest girl on the runway"
"Normally you move your body. But somehow these clothes give you the movement"

Balmain AW10 www.style.com
Just when you thought shoulders couldn't possibly get any bigger........ they did.
Iconic fashion commentator Sarah Mower described Christophe Decarnin's latest collection for Balmain as "Baroque 'n' roll, pitched somewhere between Prince's Purple Rain pomp and Louis XIV at Versailles" (www.style.com). Nevermind that, we're still oggling at the ridiculously oversized violet carpet (see exhibit above) draped over Anna Selezneva's tiny shoulders.
The collection is an overpowering fusion of old French aristocracy and the aggressive feminine powerplay we have come to love from Balmain.
Impossibly short hems? Check. A regal pallette of eggplant, gold et noir? We love it! Intricate detailing and sheer fabric? Puh-lease, give us more! Aggressive f^&k off shoulders? This trend's not going anywhere!
The only sour point perhaps is Decarnin's insistence on using seriously emaciated models. When a girl's knees are wider than her upper thighs, she has a problem. Don't try to tell us her BMI is normal. Tell us please, when will size 0 disappear?!

WAKE UP!
IT'S TWO O'CLOG
A trend hits the runway and your instant reaction is "how $#%&3#$ ugly, I can't belive that's back in fashion".
Two weeks later, you're coveting the item and can't remember how you made the transition from thinking it impossibly foul to impossibly chic.
?
Well, if a man named Lagerfeld has anything to say on the matter, you'll be soon be waking up at 2 o'clog - that is, you'll be rushing to purchase a pair, maybe not the Chanel version, but certainly the ones by Jola at Kurt Geiger (bottom left), priced £150.
Giddy Up!

L'OREAL MELBOURNE FASHION FESTIVAL 2010
Well folks, summer may be over, but Australian fashion is only waking up.
Melbourne's premier annual fashion event, the L'Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival (LMFF) is just around the corner. We can't wait to see the AW10 collections of our favourite Aussie designers including LIFEwithBIRD, ALPHA60, Yeojin Bae, Nicola Finetti, Karen Walker, Gwendolynne, Aurelio Costarella, Luela, Thurley, Mimco, Hussy + Alexi Freeman......ah, we're breathless just mentioning them in one sentence!
Spread across seven days in March, the festival kicks off with an exclusive "invitation only" opening party @ Government House, presented by L'Oreal Paris and supported by Champagne Devaux and Harpers Bazaar.
The L'Oreal Paris Runway 1, presented by GRAZIA kicks off the offical parades, showcasing the collections of Alice McCall, camilla and marc, Collette Dinnigan, Fleur Wood, LIFEwithBIRD, Nicola Finetti, sass & bide and Toni Maticevski. With more talent than you could throw a sewing machine at, this is certainly our top pick for the festival. Check it out at Peninsula, Central Pier at Melbourne's Docklands, 6:30PM.
Business savy guys and gals won't want to miss the Herald Sun Marketing Breakfast on Thursday 15 March at the Sofitel Melbourne's Grand Ballroom. Morning people need only apply for the 7:30am start. The same crew will also want to pencil in the LMFF Business Seminar, presented by the Victorian State Government, EYE, Westfield and The Australian on Friday March 19. This event will also be held at the Sofitel Melbourne on Collins, commencing at 8AM. Make sure you pick up a Lavazza coffee on your way! The LMFF Business Seminar cocktail reception, hosted by Chambord, will be held at on Friday March 19 at 4:30PM Sofi's, Sofitel Melbourne on Collins.

STYLE LESSON #16
STOP IT, I'M BLUSHING!

It's embarassing, but I have the propensity to go a little (or a lot) red from time to time. From barely noticable to the unbearable, I can go all shades of the fire engine spectrum depending on a) the time of the month b) my stress levels c) the amount of alcohol consumed the night before or d) public speaking / suddenly being the centre of attention.
It's very fortunate for me that "blush" is super chic aujourd'hui.
That's everything from nougat, latte, caramel, shell, dusty pink to the reddest of rouge. The trick, when mixing the tones is not to appear as if your make-up got stuck in the wash. Carefully match shades with the same base tones, and always pop the darker shade on your lower half. Bebe pink and grey are also BFF this season - try pairing a sleek little singlet top with the John Roca Nougat Wrap silk skirt GBP 460 (directly above this text), available at www.mysugarland.co.uk. Red and shell pink have not always been best of friends, however they've agreed to join forces this season, resulting in an impressive clash between demurity and lady of the night.

STYLE LESSON #3
MILITARY PRECISION
What goes around, comes around. A lot, apparently.
Military is one of those trends that pops up fairly frequently in the international RTW collections and refuses to die - no offense intended (helllooo Balmain, Philip Lim, Alexander Wang, Burberry Prorsum, Haider Ackermann & Aquilano.Rimondi).

Unless you've just returned from Basic Training, we recommend steering clear of cam material (that obscure camouflage stuff), and work with block colour. You've got a limited, but refined pallette of olive, petrol, cream, khaki, latte, mocha and jade. Don't be afraid to adorn semi structured pieces, though the rule is 50% fitted. You don't want to look like a tent.

STYLE LESSON #21
PUSHING THE BOUNDARIES OF PRINT
Clashing print and colour is a tricky trend to master - but once you know how, c'est facile. It may appear the only rule is "there are no rules", but this is not the case. Pay close attention to the example below.

Each outfit is not a random mish-mash of colour, form and style, although the trick is to make it appear as such.
When mixing up your fashion, be bold but smart. You don't want to look as if you tried, though of course you did. The trick is to combine matching or complimentary base tones, and select accessories that accentuate the outfit, not overpower it.
Be little crazy and have fun. Once you master this trend, step out in confidence knowing this is the look for SS10.
