THE SEPTEMBER ISSUE

Dear Readers:

My sincere apologies. I've been absent for approximately six months.

I have only recently resigned from a highly unethical consulting firm whose Managing Director did a pretty good job of almost destroying me. I wish I could tell you who she is! (look me up on Linked In).

If you've heard of a little word called bullying - you'll understand why I lost interest in fashion, blogging, and just about everything for the better part of 2010.

Happily though, HBTN traffic statistics are still kicking, people still continue to follow me on twitter (BIG SMILE) ...AND I've managed to keep my freelance post at Peppermint Magazine.

You'll see my literary contribution in the forthcoming "September Issue", which is very exciting. A big thank you to Kelley Sheenan and Tess Curran for their ongoing faith in my ability to write...and more importantly, deliver.

See you soon,

Love

With deliberately crafted hemlines that precariously skirt the buhtocks, Louise Goldin's creations are not made for wallflowers.

Winner of the highly lauded British Fashion Council's Fashion Forward Award for AW10, Goldin made her mark as head designer at Tereza Santos before launching her own label in 2005.

With more than a smattering of sci fi, her SS10&AW10 collections are a unique fusion of futuristic structure and form together with agressive, yet feminine overtones.

The SS10 collection contains a luscious pallette of nudes and sorbet, frills, flared skirts, and Madonna style 90s busts. AW10 in distinct contrast, is the rebellious older sister, with brooding tones of petrol, slate et noir and disconcerting robotic cuts.

With more than a hint at Star Trek - we like both collections indeedy. Beam us up, Scotty.

I'm going to start calling myself a guest blogger on my own blog. Updates have been so infrequent of late, for which I do apologise. I promise to step back to the plate.

Two weeks ago, Jade Roberts was kind enough to extend an invitation to HBTN Style to attend Sportsgirl's AW10 launch in Melbourne's Docklands. I'm only just uploading the images. Sorry Jade!

I'm sure you'll recognise the lady on the left (image below). I was ticked pink to meet arguably Melbourne's most famous fashion blogger, Phoebe Montague, aka Lady Melbourne. She's a real doll and not at all pretentious.

Image thanks to Alicia from Sea of Ghosts (another fave blogger of mine). If I knew a camera would be poked within three feet of my face I would have a) touched up my makeup and b) made a little effort with my outfit. I'd come straight from work, and my eyeliner and foundation were in the final stages of sliding off my face. But it was 7pm, and it was over 30 degrees (cent

For anyone that's interested, I've found the most wonderful organic-slash-natural foundation with relative staying power - Nude by Nature. I have a fairly spotty complexion - thanks to hormones & my propensity for stress. NBN has a wonderful airbrush effect that doesn't cause nasty breakouts - infact it actually seems to prevent them?!

Left to Right: Lady Melbourne (isn't she beautiful?) Vanessa Laraine, HBTN Style.

Sportsgirl's AW10 launch was a nothing short of a spectacular theatrical event. Acrobatic dance routines were impressively mixed with catwalk collections, creating sexy a cirque-du-solei meets Moulin Rouge atmosphere.

Winter Boho and black opaque legs feature heavily in the forthcoming season.

The eighties refuse to die: bright lips, crimped locks and massively oversized bows pour la tete.

Feathers demand front row attention, as do over the knee boots and sheer lacy stockings

The moody pallette of slate and noir is cleverly interspersed with cherry (below) and lavender or violet (above).

Casual military: a supporting theme. Note the patent heels and school girl socks - tres tres chic, and very on trend.

And of course the collection would not complete without a Naughty French Nautical twist.
